We shouldn’t be adversaries.

Women are real and have a right to exist. They are potentially vulnerable to harassment and violence, and have a right to be protected, respected and able to live their lives without fear.

Trans people are real and have a right to exist. They are potentially vulnerable to harassment and violence, and have a right to be protected, respected and able to live their lives without fear.

The complicated overlap between these two statements means they are sometimes treated as incompatible sets of rights, but the world is full of complex, overlapping rights and needs, and I believe we can find a way through that adequately meets everybody’s needs if we work together on the problem.

There are legitimate questions to be answered and concerns to be addressed. The first step to solving these problems is for everyone to be open to constructive, solution-seeking discussion, and to keep in mind that different peole have different perspectives and the best way forward will be the one that best meets everyone’s needs.

I don’t know what the solution is but I know the best hope for finding one is looking for it.
